2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Overview

Sound so good, you don’t need a radio.

Overview

Many Mustangs roam the road today searching for meek contenders to obliterate, but not all Mustangs are created equal. The 2016 Mustang GT350 Shelby is a breed of its own. With over 500 horsepower, MagneRide suspension, and quad piston Brembo brake calipers, it’s not the Shelby we want, but Shelby we need.

Many modern muscle cars can race gobble down a quarter mile or a straight away, but when it comes to a corner, things get a little squirrely, however, that’s where this Shelby is different.

Many people wonder if love at first sight exists…One glance at the new GT350 and you’ll never doubt it again. With a snarling front end that sports a cheeky yet alluring smile, the Shelby lures anyone who dares to look. With a wide stance, that stretches from the front arches over to the reach haunches and wraps around the rear. With a seated view of the road, meaty tires is a must and combined with modern HID headlights and unmistakable tri-bar taillights, the GT350 sticks out from the crowd like a mountain on the prairies.

Interior

Seat passenger side

The cabin is done Shelby style with only the necessities left untouched. The striking Recaro and Miko Sport Seats cling to you as they offer support at every angle, yet, remain comfortable even on the track. The steering wheel has easily accessible steering, dampener, and driving mode adjustments that let you set the right settings or adjustments for the appropriate environment.

The interior offers a large variety of options to customise each car to your specification or style. And yes… It does come with a radio, but once you push the Start/Stop button, you’ll forget all about it.

The Drive

Shelby emblem back

Don’t be alarmed by the eruption from the 526 hp, 429 lb-ft, 5.2 L, Flat Plane Crank Powerplant, anger management classes and vigorous testing on track have produced a Shelby like no other. Sitting on hefty 295/35s on the front and a set of meaty 305/35s in the rear, there’s plenty of grip to put the rubber on the road. With the GT350 in “Normal” mode, it feels like an amped up Mustang. In “Sport” mode the Shelby starts to get agitated and starts to come alive, but it isn’t until “Track” mode is engaged that the Snake strikes.

“Track” mode opens the exhaust valves to full volume, adjusts the Traction and Stability controls to almost null, the magnetic dampeners completely stiffen up, sport steering is activated, and Launch Control is available. With all of the nannies turned off, the Shelby is unleashed. Snappy but weighted steering makes guiding this beast a breeze while remaining responsive and rowdy.
